SABABA is all about uncomplicated and wholesome food to take away, with a Middle Eastern influence of course” says Tal. “It’s healthy, affordable food prepared daily which everybody would cook at home if they had the time” she explains.

Her cooking is hearty comfort food at its best - a welcome alternative to mass-produced supermarket ready-meals – and the ideal filler for the family freezer.

The pared down neutral simplicity of the SABABA store is complemented by the colourful display of food which brings it to life. A huge central table groans under the weight of the likes of: assorted homemade quiches (the likes of Butternut, Blue Cheese and Pumpkin Seed, and Camembert, Caramelised Onion and Sesame); salads and vegetarian dishes including Stuffed Cabbage Rolls with Rice, Lentils and Herbs, and Roasted Beetroot Salad with Mixed Baby Leaves and Maple Dressing.

While a refrigerated section offers cooked meat, chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes – customers can choose from Chicken Casserole with Olives, Capers and Prunes in a Red Wine Vinaigrette, Spicy Aubergine Tagina, Sweet Potato Bake with Sage and Cream, Moroccan Spiced Brisket, and Sesame Chicken Schnitzel as well as a selection of dips, salsas and pestos. And finally a selection of very seductive sweet things: Almond and Sour Cherry Tarts, Vanilla and Yoghurt Panna Cotta, White Chocolate and Cranberry Biscuits, and Meringue Nests.
